Well, I have been a mom for 6 weeks today, and Sophia decided to celebrate her month-and-a-half-birthday with smiles! She actually smiled yesterday, but I chalked it up to gas, even though it seemed a little different. Today, though, I'm SURE that she's smiling! She's smiled 3 times now when I've been rubbing her tummy and saying stupid things and smiling at her. I'm going to try to take a picture!
It's amazing the things that have changed already. I think this calls for a list!

List of Amazing Sophia Accomplishments:

1. Growth: She's very filled out (almost 9 pounds!) and has grown out of 3 of her onesies and one pair of pants. She's also out of the newborn swaddler diapers and is now a "level 1!"
2. Head Stability: Over the last couple of weeks she's really started to keep her head up on her own. Over the last week she's started to keep her head upright when I have her on one shoulder...no more banging into my neck and shoulders! And it's so cute the way she looks around when I carry her. Her latest trick is, when she's in her carseat, she pulls her head out of the head rest and holds it down and do the right. It doesn't look comfortable.
3. Looking around: Sophia is always looking around now! Her eyes are open so much...they're open every second that she's awake now and she has definite sleeping/waking patterns. (She's still sleeping about 12 hours a day!).
4. Belly button: Her umbilical cord fell off at 10 days, and about a week after that she lost the scab and had a "real belly-button!." It's an innie.
5. PUSH-UPS: Her 2nd-best accomplishment behind smiling. On Friday last week she pushed up on her arms and held her head up at the same time...she looked like she was ready to start crawling! It was so cute!
So, those are pretty much her big accomplishments. I know that like 1/2 of them are involuntary, but I still felt so amazed when they happened! It's funny how I feel each time she doesn something amazing. I feel proud and thrilled, but a little piece of my heart breaks, too. I can feel time slipping through my fingers, and I already miss the little baby that she was just a month ago. I'm trying to just enjoy it all, but most of the time I feel like I'm either looking forward to the next thing or looking back at all the things that are already gone...
