A "boring" Sunday

I really enjoy reading about what a typical day is like for other people, and I think that I would enjoy looking back on a typical day for myself, so I kept the camera on me all day Sunday the 24th. I do have some catching up to do on my blog, though, so our "boring Sunday" is down the post just a bit. At the top we have a playdate with Lily and Sophia from the 16th:
Travis scooped Lily up after he went to Fargo in the morning to buy a topper for our pickup. Lily spent almost the whole day at our place, and it was so nice to have an unscheduled day for the girls to enjoy. They started with bagels from a bakery for breakfast, and then did lots of coloring and crafting...
They went outside to collect things to glue onto their art (which never actually happened, but they seemed to enjoy running around outside anyway!)
Love the above picture. :) Lily and Sophia just "get" each other. I am so glad they are friends!
We decided to make gingersnaps, and Lily and Sophia did a lot of it very independently!
Using the mixer, which Sophia is normally afraid of, but she tried it after Lily did!
I don't know why they were in the laundry room, but then again these girls are like cats: I don't know why they do most things they do!
Kaia is really into laundry baskets too :) And, what a look! :)
Travis wasn't too happy about this, but he's a good sport! We are all enjoying his long hair! Ha
Okay, so this is where our Sunday starts. We generally have very hectic lives, but I try to make sure that at least 1 of our weekend days is a day spent completely at home and together. So, this is what one of those "typical" days looks like! Right away in the morning I was the first one away (around 8). I bundled up and went outside to let Margie and Pepper out of their stalls (Margie lost a lot of weight with a recent leg injury, so we put her in at night in order to give her extra feed without worrying the other horses will steal it. Pepper goes into a stall by her to keep her company, and he also enjoys eating in private since the other horses tend to chase him off his hay!). I fed all of the horses and then came up to the house to find Travis making oatmeal and the girls playing in the reading room.

Sophia drawing pictures of the Disney horse Spirit with his friend, the eagle.
The horses enjoying their morning hay.

Sophia ate TWO bowls of oatmeal! (Note: She dressed herself and did her own hair!)
Kaia did NOT eat her oatmeal. Ugh.
After breakfast Travis went outside to work on one of the cars while I cleaned the kitchen and started on the laundry and the girls had some more playtime in the reading room.

They play very nicely, and Sophia is an amazing helper!

Travis stoking the fire. And look! I swore that I would never try air-drying clothes in the winter, but here I am with a perfectly good dryer still using a clothesline and then finishing off the drying with racks by the woostove, just like my mother! You will also notice that I tried to be "honest" with my Sunday photos and didn't tidy things up before snapping photos which yes, I am guilty of doing a lot of the time.
Travis took this pic... there were a ton of crows in our pasture, which seemed odd.
Clothes hanging on the line in the frigid air on our front porch! Excuse the fingerprints on the windows. :)
Kaia just LOVES this white laundry basket! And her ponytail got to be so funny... we were calling her a "who" from "who-ville."
Kaia did not like her big sis squeezing in with her!
Sophia made up for it by pulling Kaia around in the basket; one of Kaia's favorites! See the empty clothes racks by the woodstove? My girls were playing with baskets while I was dealing with laundry. Squeezing 4 loads of laundry in every weekend when using a clothesline in the winter requires some serious planning.

After the laundry was finally done we bundled up to go outside and clean stalls. Kaia fell asleep on my back while I was mucking stalls, and Sophia ran around outside. We still have a little gravel pile left, and Sophia spent a lot of time climbing around on it. :)
Travis bundling up too... he went out and took our palomino, Sunny, for a nice long ride!
These are the new stalls! Travis built this addition on our barn by himself (I helped a bit!). Margie has the big stall along the north side of the shelter, and Pepper has the small stall to the left in the picture.

Travis and Sunny!

Our golden retriever mix, Casey, loves going out with the horses! I took the girls inside and we had lunch (loaded veggie burgers with fruit) while Travis was out riding. Then, when he was about 10 min away, I bundled the girls up and we went out to get Sophia's pony ready for a ride!
I took Sunny from Travis and helped hang onto Pepper and Sophia and I enjoyed an awesome 3 mile trail ride together!

Heading out on our ride! We took both doggies with :)
The sun set right after we returned from our ride! I put Sunny and Pepper away and then came into the house to discover that Travis had made pizza!!! YAY!

We watched our new netflix movie, Planes, and enjoyed our pizza in front of a cozy fire in the family room.
Ok, I actually cheated here... after Planes was bathtime. Travis did the bath while I did the evening horse chores, so I took these bath photos the next day. :) I do baths 4-5 nights a week, and I usually enjoy bath time just because the girls enjoy it so much! But it is nice to have a break from it when Travis is home!
They are just so cute and silly in the bathtub!

 This is a favorite game...

Letters on the head is ok too! Kaia has also just discovered the joy of standing up and then collapsing to make a huge splash.

After bath is story time. I nurse Kaia on one side while I read to Sophia, then Kaia and I fetch fresh water for Sophia's sippy cup, then Kaia steals a drink and then hands the cup to Sophia, then I tuck Sophia in and leave her door open just a crack... we have a VERY solid night routine! I nurse Kaia again and put her to bed at 10 (Sophia goes to bed at 8 on weekdays, 9 on the weekend). On weekends Travis helps me clean up and I can get into bed by 10 or 11, but on weekdays I don't get to bed until 12, and then Kaia nurses once at 3 am (at least I know what I'm in for!), and then up at 6 on weekdays. Ouch. I love our 1 lazy weekend day every week! I NEED it!
A picture from last night... Sophia served a turkey dinner on coasters. Sophia and I got to eat turkeys wearing pilgrim hats (see below) and Kaia got to eat... a pilgrim (above). Haha! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Birthday, Birthday and Swimming!

On Nov 3rd Sophia was so excited to attend the birthday party for one of her old Academy friends, Penelope. It was so fun to see our old Academy friends! They had the party at this great indoor playground in Fargo (my VT friends would be reminded of DZ Discovery Zone)... HUGE facility. I just snapped these 2 pics of the girls sharing a seat and a slice of cake... I was too busy during the playground time to get any pics! Kaia is ALL OVER the place now!

I took this pic for my VT friends too... this is a pile of sugarbeets. If you don't buy cane sugar then this is where your sugar comes from! It's BIG business out here. This pic doesn't really demonstrate how massive these two piles are. This is the staging area just for our bitty little town of Glyndon... there are loads of these staging areas all over. It's been fun during the last month to watch the lines of trucks hauling the beets to the pile, and to watch the machine shoot the beets up! We pass this every day on the way to Sophia's school!

On Friday the 8th Mandy came over with Lily and Miles (Ella and Joe were out looking for deer) and we had pizza. And Sophia and Lily tackled Travis.

Then on Saturday the 9th we headed up to Grand Forks for Great Grandma Mary's 92nd birthday! This is Grandpa Ralph with Kaia and cousin Ava...

 And Grandma Mary :)

 Kiddie Pile!
Kaia with her Grandma Carmen :) (I happen to think that Kaia resembles her Grandma Carmen... does anyone else see a resemblance??)

Kaia with Aunt Lindsey (who is insanely photogenic!)
BABIES!!! Travis's cousin Maura's son Jonas on the far left, then cousins Ava and Gunner, then Travis' cousin Renae's son and Kaia. All babies from 2012 except for Ava (2011)!!
Getting Kaia to look at the camera was super challenging...
And then she stuck out her tongue!
That one was pretty cute :)
 ...and they're off!
The big cousins always put on a little show at these gatherings, and Sophia is starting to really participate.

My girls with their Great Grandma Mary :) We are so lucky to have her in our lives... she is the most gentle, loving mom/grandma/great grandma a person could hope for.

Family pic turned out a bit blurry, but still special

Mairi and Sophia (2nd cousins) hanging upside down! They are one year apart, and are starting to take notice of each other and play together :)
On Sunday Sophia (legitimately!) helped Travis install a new floor in our horse trailer. She was in charge of putting washers and bolts together, hammering things down, and handing tools to daddy (even a heavy mallet!). After her work there was done she and I went for a long, wonderful ride on Pepper and Sunny together :) Another crazy busy and wonderful weekend flew by!
Sophia is taking swimming lessons on Mondays right now. Here she's swimming with a floatie barbell thing. I only do 1 activity at a time! (Plus 4-H, which is year-round). We had gymnastics Sept-Oct, and now swimming Nov-Dec, and then we'll have ballet Jan-June (and then swimming and soccer in the summer). On the first week of every school month I have swimming on Monday, PTA meeting Tuesday, and 4-H on Thursday... it gets to be a bit much.
Kaia has to be surrounded by food and toys or she is bee-lining for the pool!
Life is busy, but good!
